Two product families supplied together: HDPE or foam-filled rafts for 2, 4 and 6 riders, and EN ISO 12402 life jackets at 50 N, 100 N and 150 N. Fleet quantities are calculated from slide cycle time so the park does not buy either too few or too many.
raft counts calculated from dispatch interval and flume run time, not guesswork
toddler to XXL, colour-coded so a mis-fit is visible across the deck
the detail that stops a child's vest riding up in a wave pool
logo, size and serial number speed up inventory and daily inspection
These are consumables, and that is exactly why they deserve a specification. A park that buys rafts on price alone replaces them twice as often; a park that buys life jackets in three sizes instead of five has children in adult vests that ride up over their ears. Both errors are invisible on a spreadsheet and obvious in the pool.
Rafts
Slide rafts are either rotomoulded HDPE shells with foam filling or inflatable chambers inside a reinforced PVC skin. The rotomoulded type is heavier, tracks better in a flume and cannot deflate mid-ride, which makes it the safer choice for high towers. Handles are stainless or moulded integrally with the shell, never bolted through a thin section, and the underside is smooth so it does not scuff the flume. Sizes are 2, 4 and 6 person; the 4-person raft is the workhorse for family raft slides, while 2-person rafts suit racing and boomerang installations.
Life Jackets
Buoyancy is matched to the activity. Fifty newtons is a buoyancy aid for confident swimmers in shallow water; 100 N is the standard for wave pools and lazy rivers; 150 N is required where a non-swimmer may enter deeper water or where rescue is slow. Foam is EPE or closed-cell PVC, the shell is 500D polyester with UV stabiliser, and every jacket has a crotch strap - the single most important detail, because a vest without one rides up on a child in a wave pool. Sizes run from toddler to XXL, colour-coded by size so staff can spot a mis-fit from across the deck.
Fleet Sizing
The common failure is buying to peak attendance rather than to cycle time. Raft count follows from throughput: if a slide dispatches a raft every 60-90 seconds and the flume takes 40 seconds, three rafts per lane covers steady operation with one spare; a park with four lanes needs twelve, not forty. Jackets are sized at roughly one per two to three guests in the water at peak, plus a 15 percent reserve for wet and drying stock, plus a full set of children's sizes at every dispensing point.
Inspection, Branding and Replacement
Both items need a written inspection regime. Rafts are checked daily for handle security and shell damage, and pressure-tested monthly if inflatable. Jackets are checked for seam failure, foam compression and strap condition, with any jacket that has been used in a rescue removed from service permanently. Printing the park logo, size and a serial number on each jacket makes both inventory and inspection faster and discourages loss. Realistic service life is three to five seasons for jackets in daily commercial use and five or more for rotomoulded rafts.
